A public meeting to explain the impact of the State government’s decision to “delay” Traveston Crossing dam has been called for this Saturday, November 29, by local Member David Gibson. The meeting will be held at the Kandanga Hall on Saturday at 9:30am. Mr Gibson said after what could only be described as confusing week in State Parliament, Mary Valley residents needed to hear about where they now stood. “We have seen some very mixed messages from the Premier over the dam and people are rightly confused,” Mr Gibson said.

The State of Democracy in Queensland
Recent events in Queensland ranging from the hospitals crisis to local government amalgamations have highlighted the State’s exceutive top down decision-making processes. Combined with a politicised public service this makes for comfortable government. But has it resulted in too many poor decisions? Scott Prasser is a Senior Lecturer in Management at the University of the Sunshine Coast. Scott writes extensively on public policy issues in The Australian and The Courier-Mail.

Scheduled Meetings
It would be really great if people from the Forum would also be people on the committee. This is going to be a big fight and it is critical that people be united and coordinated in keeping attention focused on the issue. There is also a group which has formed called Artists Saving Mary with the mission to engage artists (all mediums) in using their art to raise awareness locally, nationally and internationally about the dam. It is an inclusive group and one does not necessarily have to be an artist to be involved. We are planning a project similar to the Farming with Mary project which happened in June of 2005 which involved local artists, international artists and the community.
