A public meeting to explain the impact of the State government’s decision to “delay” Traveston Crossing dam has been called for this Saturday, November 29, by local Member David Gibson. The meeting will be held at the Kandanga Hall on Saturday at 9:30am. Mr Gibson said after what could only be described as confusing week in State Parliament, Mary Valley residents needed to hear about where they now stood. “We have seen some very mixed messages from the Premier over the dam and people are rightly confused,” Mr Gibson said.

For an awareness of the community spirit of the Mary Valley and the people the proposed dam is affecting. The Save the Mary River campaign has been included as one of the 22 cases world wide that will be exhibited at Zaragoza, Spain in Jun-Aug 2008. This is a world expo with the theme “Water and Sustainable Development” and a Pavilion of Citizen Initiatives entitled “Homage to the Affected of Water Policies”.

Combined with a politicised public service this makes for comfortable government. But has it resulted in too many poor decisions? Scott Prasser is a Senior Lecturer in Management at the University of the Sunshine Coast. Scott writes extensively on public policy issues in The Australian and The Courier-Mail.

QWI - Community Information Days

Queensland Water Infrastructure (QWI) Pty Ltd is to hold another round of Community Information Days associated with the proposed Traveston Crossing Dam Environmental Impact Statement (EIS). Community members are invited to attend Information Days at Maryborough and Amamoor from 11am to 3pm. The Maryborough Information Day will be held at the Brolga Theatre lawns, Walker Street on Saturday 9 June 2007 and will be followed by the Amamoor Information Day on Sunday 10 June 2007 at 1825 Mary Valley Road, Amamoor, near Gympie.

It would be really great if people from the Forum would also be people on the committee. This is going to be a big fight and it is critical that people be united and coordinated in keeping attention focused on the issue. There is also a group which has formed called Artists Saving Mary with the mission to engage artists (all mediums) in using their art to raise awareness locally, nationally and internationally about the dam. It is an inclusive group and one does not necessarily have to be an artist to be involved. We are planning a project similar to the Farming with Mary project which happened in June of 2005 which involved local artists, international artists and the community.
