URGENT MEETING: David Gibson Sat 29/11

A public meeting to explain the impact of the State government’s decision to “delay” Traveston Crossing dam has been called for this Saturday, November 29, by local Member David Gibson.
The meeting will be held at the Kandanga Hall on Saturday at 9:30am. Mr Gibson said after what could only be described as confusing week in State Parliament, Mary Valley residents needed to hear about where they now stood.
“We have seen some very mixed messages from the Premier over the dam and people are rightly confused,” Mr Gibson said.
“Despite asking the Premier twice to come to Gympie to explain her current position she refused to, so I am calling a public meeting to explain where the situation with the dam is currently at.
“The people of the Mary Valley are rightly confused and this meeting will give me a chance to update everyone.
“I encourage everyone to come along if they want to find out the facts,” he said.

Traveston fight set to continue
30th November 2008
By Mark Bode
The state government’s mixed messages about the future of its Traveston Dam proposal have left residents of the area in limbo.
So yesterday the opposition held a public meeting at Kandanga in a bid to shed some light on the matter.
Gympie MP David Gibson said the more than 150 people who attended the meeting at short notice showed protests against the dam would continue, despite the government’s insistence it was a done deal.
“It shows the fight against the dam and people’s concerns about its environmental impact have not been slowed,” he said.
“People haven’t lost interest in this issue, so that was really good.”
Mr Gibson told the crowd it was halftime in the fight to stop the dam and protesters were ahead.
Mr Gibson said Ms Bligh was quick to listen to scientific evidence but ignored the evidence when it was not what she wanted to hear.
“I hope Anna Bligh takes the time to listen to what scientists are saying rather than what her Labor colleagues are saying,” Mr Gibson said.
