WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY - Saturday JUN 21
Venue: The University of the Sunshine Coast
Venue: The University of the Sunshine Coast
The World Environment Day festival at the University of the Sunshine Coast has been postponed until Saturday June 21 due to the lovely (and much needed) rain that the Sunshine Coast is currently experiencing.
The Sunshine Coast Environment Council, together with the Sunshine Coast Regional Council, the University of the Sunshine Coast and SEQ Catchments are hosting the 2008 World Environment Day Festival as part of the United Nations World Environment Day international event, themed CO2 KICK THE HABIT! Towards a Low Carbon Economy.
Join in the fun with speakers, forums, innovation, kids programs, farmers market, food, music and more…
More info at http://www.scec.org.au
* The University of the Sunshine Coast has recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding with QWI Pty Ltd (the state govt. department thinly veiled as a private company, charged with the task of ensuring construction of the proposed Traveston Crossing Dam). You may well wonder how supporting the environmentally disastrous proposition of Traveston Dam can be aligned with the uni’s supposed environmental commitment… so take the opportunity at World Environment Day to find a USC staff member and ask for an explanation!

ITS TIME TO RALLY!! June 21
Save the Mary River Street march and rally at the Qld Labor Party Convention on June 21
The Qld Labor Party is holding its State Convention at the Gold Coast Convention Centre on June 21,22. Kevin “I’m here to help” Rudd will be there.
We will assemble at Cascade Gardens Broadbeach to march at 11.00am
Why is a Protest Rally against the proposed Traveston Crossing Dam desperately important RIGHT NOW?
Because the Federal Govt is about to receive the Qld Govt’s Environmental Impact Statement for its review and they need to know how unpopular this proposal is.
Further details ring rally organisers:
John Porter - 54855255, 0427476488 Lyndall Ensbey - 54843697, 0427167329, Kent Hutton - 54828830, 0409064885, or Kandanga Info Centre 54884800.
LETTER CAMPAIGN - Don’t Murray the Mary!
This is a critical time in the Save the Mary Campaign, with the Federal Government soon to review the dam proposal and decide the fate of the Mary River!
We’re calling on everyone to write letters or send cards to key members of the Federal Government and let them know what you think about Traveston Crossing Dam.
The Federal Government has an outstanding Water Policy, and if they are true to their word within it, there’s NO WAY that they could allow the damming of the Mary River. Add your voice to remind them that Australia is watching and waiting… and sincerely hoping we don’t end up with the ‘Garrett Environmental Disaster Dam’!
You don’t need to write letters of epic length, nor be conversant with the complex scientific or technical issues involved… just make sure to tell them that Traveston Crossing Dam MUST NOT BE APPROVED!
Direct letters to all of the following:
Mr Peter Garrett
Minister for the Environment, Heritage and the Arts
GPO Box 787
CANBERRA 2601
The Hon Kevin Rudd
Prime Minister
Parliament House
CANBERRA 2600
Senator Penny Wong
Minister for Climate Change and Water

POSTCARD & LETTER CAMPAIGN - Distributors Needed!
The Save the Mary Info Centre at Kandanga has a huge supply of new ‘Don’t Murray the Mary’ postcards, and needs some help distributing them EVERYWHERE, and encouraging people to sign and send them to federal pollies.
Contact the centre on 07 5488 4800 for more info.
