I speak for the old who cannot interpret the nuances between, aquire, resume and multilayers of technical information (who only know their homes and land is threatened), I speak for the children are at each others throats because some parents are selling, getting millions and others are despairing and going bankrupt – they are not learning, I speak for the families and friends of people that are buried in the cemetery at Kandanga – for the thousands who will not be able to wait 3 hours at the microphone queue, for those who have given up and will not attend this meeting – I am glad you are here Ms Bligh because perhaps you can gain some idea of the anguish pain and suffering that your government has put on these people.
They are experiencing hell. They have to endure watching Premier Beattie making jokes about “rock science” with his cheesy grin, and you admitting to a “minor glitch” when someone receives in the same mail a letter saying their land is now out of the dam and not required and another letter making a demand of their property. I am glad you are here to see the effect and why so many people are angry with your government. I will tell you why.
Because of the treachery of the Queensland government, especially from the premier.
You behave as though this is business as usual – if treachery and abuse are your normal business then we want nothing of it or your government.
Why did we turn our backs on the premier? Because he turned his back on us as citizens of Queensland.
How do you expect people to relate to you when you invade, trample on their rights as Queenslanders and threaten to dispossess them?
Are the residents of the Mary Valley expected to sit around and talk respectfully as though we are talking to honorable people?
(Look at you in your business suits all official like!)
You can behave as treacherously as you like – but don’t expect respect for it.
We deserved proper consultation and none has been given – your governments approach has been akin to holding a gun at peoples head and saying, “Lets talk”.
Let me explain: There was an invalid process taken by the premier in proposing this dam. We were not respectfully advised of the possibility of a dam with a series of social impact studies required for this, a series of environmental impact studies required for this, or the responsible assessment of costings – just “this will go ahead feasible or not.”
Since then there has been systematic abuse of the people of this region. I am sure you will hear of it today. We have endured bungles, delays, empty promises lies and callous officious disregard for the value, rights and privileges of the people of the Mary Valley.
You continually refer to an Armageddon situation without knowing what you are referring to. The original concept of Armageddon comes from a prophecy of the wrath of God outpoured on corrupt leadership - in that case I say bring it on - bring on Armageddon!
Your government has behaved in a way that is beyond contempt. The people of this region have suffered an invasion from a diabolical cohort – In Gods name you need to retreat. Back away and repair the damage you are responsible for.
Peter Beattie may be asking the churches to pray for God to save Queensland – let me put it in words you may remember “Well may we say God save Queensland…because nothing will save the Premier-Beattie”.

A priest was giving a sermon on the evils of alcohol and the disruption it caused to peoples lives. It was a real ‘fire and brimstone’ sermon and he was banging the pulpit. To explain his message he gave a demonstration.
He got a glass of water and glass of beer. He put an earthworm in the glass of water. It started to swim around doing backstroke and butterfly, having a great time. He took it out and put it into the glass of beer. It died and sank straight to the bottom. “What does that tell you,” screamed the priest. An old drunk sitting at the front of the church yelled “If you’ve got worms, drink beer.”
