Hi there
I've been a long-time admirer of your site and the work you're doing and have found it an excellent source of information thought this article in the Independent newspaper might interest you
http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/australasia/australia-is-worst-nation-on-earth-at-preserving-wildlife-793510.html
I'm a student studying environmental conservation and have been researching the prosed dam at Traveston Crossing as part of my course. I gave a presentation on the subject at the university's Environment Week recently and people were horrified at the potential impacts - it puts a lot of our development proposals in the shade and highlights our (relatively) more accountable EIA process. I've attached the Powerpoint slides - feel free to use it them any way you want if it'll be of any use....
Good luck with all your work, it's encouraging to see the recent news about the EIS having to potentially be rewritten, and I thought it'd be nice to let you know that your campaign is being noticed outside Australia as well!
All the very best,

Hi there.
I see you’re writing about the queensland local council elections - just wondering if you’d like to get involved over at our site qlddecides.com
It’s an initiative run by On Line Opinion, QUT and the Local Government Association of Queensland. We’re running a citizen journalism service to cover every council election in the state.
It would be great to have you on board - we could either cross-post your stuff or you could send stuff directly to me via email. Either way, we’re hoping for a diverse range of stuff on these elections, and we expect the site to get a fair bit of attention.

400 ministers and members of the Uniting Church in Queensland met in May this year and overwhelmingly expressed their support for the people of the Mary Valley in their battle to stop the construction of the dam at Traveston Crossing and also expressed their dismay regarding the manner in which the Mary Valley community has been treated. I have written to the Premier to convey this information and to this point in time have not received a formal response! We will continue to oppose the construction of the dam in every way we can.

As you are probably aware, in April the SMEC report on options to divert NSW Northern Rivers water was included in the RRAT Traveston Dam Inquiry.
The Clarence catchment area is the principal focus of the SMEC report, but the real Clarence water diversion aims are not to supply SE Qld but to supply bulk waters users within the Murray-Darling eg., Rio Tinto, CSA Mines, Macquarie Bank.
Go to http://aclarencevalleyprotest.blogspot.com for some background.

Hi,
I didn't know it was possible to trace a computer. If the YES votes on Rob Messenger's poll are traced to the Labour party or worse a government computer, what next? Is it an offence? Can we expect to see someone in court over this?
Imagine if Anna was charged! I'd like to see that.
arawajo.

My name is Karen Francis and I'm involved with Bulimba Creek Catchment Coordinating Committee - B4C, in Brisbane. (website: http://www.bulimbacreek.org.au).
We are urgently looking for name/s of people who can give us some information about the paradise dam. In particular, landowners and others who were displaced by the building of the dam, also scientist and / or environmentalists involved in the process who can provide us with information we may need.
We are involved with several Twinning projects at the moment, one of which is with France. One of the current issues being discussed is the building of dams - pros and cons & alternatives. There is an International Expo being held in Spain in 2008 and one of the aspects is the investigation of people who have been displaced / effected by the building of dams. We are hoping to get involved and to be able to send some information on similar situation/s here in Australia.
We'd apprecate any assistance you may be able to give us.
Many Thanks
Karen Francis

It's good to know we're not alone isn't it, especially as it becomes quite isolating at times, we little people against the power of economics and council officials with big egos!
Keep up the good work, our rivers need us to fight for them, and while we fight for our rivers we are never alone.
Every good wish to you and the Mary River,

I heard the ABC program about your struggle, via the BBC World Service. I would have thought the crucial issue is not the lungfish per se, but the fact that the Australian government is once again riding roughshod over Aboriginal rights and beliefs. In any case, do hope you win this fight.

Found this site to be very informative and interesting providing useful information to make an informed decision about the proposed traveston dam. Discovering that to destroy homes for a water supply it not the answer, what about a tank??

I work for a supplier of waterless composting toilets, Ecoflo Water Management, and I am 100% behind your opposition to the proposed Traveston Crossing Dam. It is ludicrous that such destructive dams are proposed as a solution to water shortages when we continue to wastefully flush 35,000 litres of fresh drinking water per home down the toilet each year!
Kind regards,
Cam
