On October 5, 2008 a public forum was held to discuss the numerous downstream impacts of the proposed dam on the Mary River. This video is a short summary of key points made by expert presenters during the forum.
The forum was organised by the Greater Mary Association Inc. If you would like to know more, please contact greatermary@gmail.com

In 2008, when the Qld government announced a delay in dam construction, you were quoted as saying:

“We are not celebrating yet but a few quiet beers at this stage are well in order.”

Peter Garrett and Barnaby Joyce, as you know we are now 3 years into the fight to Save the Mary River with still no end in sight.

When might we be celebrating the protection of precious ecosystems and threatened species for which the Mary River is the lifeblood?

I have experienced the callous way the Queensland government have bullied the local community, Barnaby Joyce could share something of that as he was on the senate inquiry which exposed this painful abuse.

My question is “How can you allow this suffering to continue when the social impact is a part of your responsibility to assess?”

How can you have confidence in the Queensland government doing the right thing for lungfish, frogs and dugongs - when they have treated people so shabbily, surely their track record of building an environmentally sound dam is shot from their last effort at Paradise dam on the Burnett river?

Will you stand up for us, hold them accountable and stop this travesty?
