FEDERAL funding for a recycled water pipeline for Queensland is looking more certain following a meeting between the state’s deputy premier Anna Bligh and the Federal Government.

Ms Bligh met with the Federal Government’s water spokesman Malcolm Turnbull last night to ask for funding for the Western Corridor Recycling Pipeline.

The pipeline will be used to take recycled water to the Tarong and Swanbank power stations.

“We’re very keen for the Commonwealth to make a financial contribution to the cost of that because it will take drinking water away from industrial use and put it back into household use,” Ms Bligh has said on ABC radio.

“So that pipeline is on the way to being built and I had a very long discussion with Malcolm Turnbull, who is prepared to have a look at Commonwealth contribution to that.

“The Federal Government has a national water initiative with significant funding available and we’re very keen to make sure that Queensland gets its fair share of that for some of the major water projects that we’re looking at.”
