The Queensland Government says the finishing line is in sight for the south-east Queensland water grid.

Deputy Premier Paul Lucas says the Gold Coast desalination plant and the western corridor recycled pipeline are now about 70 per cent complete.

He has told Parliament that is good news but he is worried residents have lately started to use more water.

“Average daily per person usage has increased nine litres in the last three weeks,” he said.

“Last week’s figure was the highest usage figure in the last six months.

“South-east Queensland residents have done a great job in getting down from 300 litres per person per day we were using before the drought.

“I urge residents to keep up the good work.”
