The Platypus
I saw a platypus this morning.
I have seen them before but never so late, it was nearly lunch.
Gliding in canoe, I spy the creatures glistening brown and black.
In a fresh world of beauty she lies, the fish and turtles below.
Iridescently flashing a kingfisher deducts one fish,
All busy feeding in a valley, blue and green.
O God its so gorgeous, so full of life.
Rolling in the sun without a care in the world.
Blue above and again on the water.
Which way is up, my soul fills with laughter.
She spies me, ecstatic seconds linger, as we mutually stare.
With a flip and a wiggle shes off, now a dolphin.
More, more, more, we want more but they are gone.
O God its so gorgeous, so full of life.
Life overflowing, with so much to give.
May Mary keep flowing, sustaining, surprising
